Richard S. Wilson

Richard Wilson is a partner in the Firm’s Construction Law Group. He represents owners, contractors, and design professionals in disputes arising from complex commercial construction projects. Richard’s experience includes some of the largest construction projects in the United States, including process facilities, high-rise hotel buildings, large-scale residential complexes, and railways.

Richard has litigated claims relating to all aspects of the design and construction of complex commercial projects, including breach of contract claims and payment disputes; scheduling disputes and claims for delay, disruption, and acceleration; design errors & omissions; and construction defect claims. Richard has also handled significant disputes involving insurance coverage for claims that arise in the course of constructing large and complex projects.

In addition to his litigation experience, Richard has assisted clients in negotiating and drafting various construction agreements. Richard also has substantial expertise in advising clients during the initiation and evolution of claims that occur during construction projects. Richard helps clients facing potential claims by evaluating how to perfect the project record and whether to negotiate claim resolutions with other entities on the project such that, should litigation or arbitration become unavoidable, Richard’s clients are in the best possible position to prevail.

Richard’s practice has earned him recognition as a “Rising Star” by Illinois Super Lawyers and as an “Emerging Lawyer” by Leading Lawyers.

Since 2023, Richard has been selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch© in the field of Construction Law.

Since 2018, Richard has been selected to the list of Illinois Rising Stars, a list published by Super Lawyers. Rising Stars uses a patented multiphase selection process which includes peer nominations and evaluations combined with third party research. Each candidate is evaluated on 12 indicators of peer recognition and professional achievement. Attorneys who have been selected to the list of Illinois Rising Stars make up 2.5 percent of lawyers in Illinois who have been in practice for less than ten years. These selections are made on an annual basis.

Richard received his J.D. magna cum laude from Chicago-Kent College of Law in 2015, where served as Executive Articles Editor for the Chicago-Kent Law Review and was elected to the Order of the Coif. During law school, He externed for the Honorable Ann Claire Williams of the United States Court Of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit and for the Honorable David B. Atkins of the Circuit Court of Cook County, Chancery Division. He earned a B.A. cum laude in sociology from Connecticut College in 2010.
