Adam L. Gill
Adam Gill is a partner in the Firm’s Construction Law Group. Adam concentrates his practice in the area of construction law and litigation. Adam represents owners, developers, general contractors, construction managers, architects, engineers, design builders, subcontractors, and material suppliers in disputes involving claims for delay, disruption, acceleration, and loss of productivity; design and construction defects; breach of contract; claims for extras, excessive change orders, and out-of-scope work; mechanics liens; and fraud. In addition to dispute resolution, Adam assists clients in drafting and negotiating construction agreements. Adam’s experience includes projects across all industries, including building, infrastructure, healthcare, and public works.
Adam was a practicing architect for eight years before beginning his legal career, and he maintains his architect’s license in both Illinois and Missouri.
- Represented developer of multifamily real estate complexes in Federal lawsuit against multiple general contractors for fraud and construction defects.
- Represented the construction manager on a project involving the construction of seven pump stations for an oil pipeline that travels through multiple states, arising from a claim for breach of contract brought by a prime contractor against the pipeline owner.
- Represented general contractor in a multimillion-dollar lawsuit alleging fraud against a public entity, claiming that the public entity hid the fact that there were asbestos-wrapped pipes subsurface that were uncovered during construction, which resulted in significant delays and additional costs.
- Represented a medical facility on claims concerning design and construction defects in its new $500 million hospital.
- Defended a prime contractor against subcontractor’s claims for additional compensation arising from delays in the work caused by others on a new $600 million, 800,000-square-foot hospital building.
- Defended a general contractor from $20 million in liquidated damages claims brought by developer arising from construction delays on a 60-story mixed use building.
- Represented a general contractor against owner in a dispute arising from additional work required because of unanticipated site conditions at owner’s intermodal freight facility.
- Represented subcontractor in litigation relating to mechanics lien recorded by supplier and prime contractor’s failure to make payments on municipal sewer restoration project.
- Defended a construction lender with mortgage interest in real property from mechanics lien claims brought by the architect, general contractor, subcontractors and material suppliers.
- Represented a design/build contractor in a dispute with property owner regarding project costs and payment for services rendered.
- Defended a general contractor and property owner against mechanics lien and payment bond actions brought by labor unions as a result of a subcontractor’s failure to contribute to fringe benefits funds.
- Represented an “at risk” construction manager regarding the administration of two multibillion-dollar construction contracts involving an oil distribution system and pump stations.
- Defended a general contractor against claims brought by subcontractor and installer for additional compensation on 28-story condominium project.
- Represented a general contractor in bankruptcy proceeding to prevent a subcontractor from discharging its debt to a material supplier.
Adam received his B.A. from Kansas State University, and he received his J.D., cum laude, from the DePaul University College of Law in 2006.
