Daniel Dorfman is Chair of the Firm’s Construction Law Practice. Daniel represents owners, developers, architects, engineers, designers, general contractors, subcontractors, specialty trades, and construction suppliers in all types of construction transactional and litigation matters. As a LEED® Green Associate, he also has a particular focus in sustainable construction and in the renewable energy markets.

Daniel has extensive experience drafting and negotiating complex design and construction agreements, as well as litigating construction disputes, and taking them to trial when necessary. His experience includes representing international hospitality brands, national owners of apartment communities, and some of the largest general contractors and design professionals in the country. In addition, Daniel regularly counsels his clients during the construction process on the day-to-day legal issues that arise, to proactively resolve disputes and ensure that the project is successfully completed.


Daniel also serves as outside general counsel to his construction industry clients, providing advice and representation in transactional matters, disputes, insurance coverage matters, claims prosecution and defense, and arbitrations.

Daniel is an AV Preeminent® construction lawyer and recognized by Leading Lawyers as an Emerging Lawyer in Construction Law in Illinois. He is a frequent guest lecturer on the subject of construction law at academic institutions such as Chicago-Kent College of Law, J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Illinois Institute of Technology School of Architecture, and Northwestern School of Law. In addition, Daniel routinely lectures at publicly and privately held companies and prominent trade organizations on a variety of legal issues affecting the construction industry.

Daniel received his J.D., cum laude, from Northwestern University School of Law. Daniel is licensed to practice in the State of Illinois, United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.
